Words for Wednesday - Denis Diderot Quotation

"The number of books will grow continually, and one can predict that a time will come when it will be almost as difficult to learn anything from books as from the direct study of the whole universe. It will be almost as convenient to search for some bit of truth concealed in nature as it will be to find it hidden away in an immense multitude of bound volumes."

Denis Diderot (1713 - 1784)

  1. love it :) x and totally agree, have been getting tired of books for a while. I have a favourite too from Richard Jefferies about the hope and dream that 'future generations will be able to be idle, that 9/10 of their time will be leisure time, that they may sit by the sea and dream, that they may eat and drink and laugh and sing...' x

    1. How lovely, certainly a sentiment I agree with even if I am not sure how we will reach that place.
